Colourful incense sticks

Making incense in the countryside around Hue

The raw ingredients are lemongrass, sandalwood and cinnamon. Cinnamon is the main ingredient in the paste that is rolled onto the bamboo sticks (it’s mixed with water to form that going mud-like paste)

I’m continuing on my journey through Vietnam and hopefully I’ll have one more post before I’m home in Sydney.

Lilies, Lemongrass and the Herbal Medicine Centre of Hoi An – Vietnam Blog 3

Hello natural beauties I hope you’re all well and happy. I’ve spent the past five days in Hoi An and An Bang Beach in Central Vietnam. To say I love it would be an understatement. Here’s some pics for you.

The beautiful water lilies I found on my day cycling around Hoi An:

I had a lovely massage which was preceded by a hot foot soak in fresh lemongrass.

The massage oil was slow cured coconut oil which was a dark brown colour – with a few drops of lemongrass essential oil. After the treatment ment I was offered passionfruit and a cup of lemongrass tea.

And finally a look into the ancient home of  Duc An, in Hoi An. The herb drawers were absolutely beautiful and sat at the front of the house.

This ancient house of Duc An built in the 17th century became a centre for Chinese medicine in the late 1800″s through to the early 1990’s and was a gathering place for intellectuals and revolutionaries.

Hoi An is a beautiful old town!

A Day at the Mud Spa – Vietnam Blog 2

Video

Xin chao from Vietnam! In this week’s blog I’ll share my fun afternoon at a mud spa and resort. I’ve edited the movie on my phone which was a little hard to do and also blogging from my phone I’ve lost the formatting and links to my book and website below. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do that soon? So please enjoy my little move from I Resort, Nha Trang, Vietnam.

I felt hydrated and clean after a 30 minute soak in the mud followed by a 30 minute soak in the hot mineral herbal bath.

The herbs were fragrant and sweet and I loved the little handmade cotton balls that were stuffed full.

The view over the river from the upper waterfalls was stunning.

It was a wonderful way to spend  four  hours with the beautiful view of the lotus pond waiting for me when I left.

I love Vietnam!

My Fragrant Saigon – Vietnam Blog 1

Hello natural beauties for the next month I’ll be blogging from my phone while I travel Vietnam. Please forgive any typos or mistakes as it’s slightly more difficult doing this from a little device than it is from laptop. I’ll be searching for some fragrant moments for you and here is what I’ve found on my first few days …

The most aromatic moment so far has to be the Vietnamese coffee.  The robusta bean is mostly used which is more bitter than the arabica. Coffee culture is a serious thing here and being a diabetic vegan I have to drink it black without sugar – on ice! Iced coffee and iced tea are what most of the locals drink and I’m down with that because it’s soooooo hot! I’m surprised how much I love it!

Ca phe den da (iced black coffee)

So many beautiful teas – literally dried flowers at the Ben Thanh Market

A little star jasmine flower on the streets of Saigon

A Vietnamese orange – the rind smells like a mix of mandarin and orange and the  fruit has a mild mandarin flavour.

Incense at the Buddhist Jade Pagoda was absolutely divine

Fragrant Lilies at the jade pagoda

And finally a trip to Villa Royale Antiques and Tea Room for a fragrant jug of Iced Sillver Moon (peach) tea

I’ve loved my first few days in Vietnam in the beautiful city of Saigon.

Stay tuned for the next episode where I’ll be posting pics from the Mekong Delta and the beachy Nha Trang.
