Colourful incense sticks

Making incense in the countryside around Hue

The raw ingredients are lemongrass, sandalwood and cinnamon. Cinnamon is the main ingredient in the paste that is rolled onto the bamboo sticks (it’s mixed with water to form that going mud-like paste)

Lilies, Lemongrass and the Herbal Medicine Centre of Hoi An – Vietnam Blog 3

The beautiful water lilies I found on my day cycling around Hoi An:

I had a lovely massage which was preceded by a hot foot soak in fresh lemongrass.

The massage oil was slow cured coconut oil which was a dark brown colour – with a few drops of lemongrass essential oil. After the treatment ment I was offered passionfruit and a cup of lemongrass tea.

And finally a look into the ancient home of  Duc An, in Hoi An. The herb drawers were absolutely beautiful and sat at the front of the house.

This ancient house of Duc An built in the 17th century became a centre for Chinese medicine in the late 1800″s through to the early 1990’s and was a gathering place for intellectuals and revolutionaries.

Hoi An is a beautiful old town!

A Day at the Mud Spa – Vietnam Blog 2

Video

Xin chao from Vietnam! In this week’s blog I’ll share my fun afternoon at a mud spa and resort. I’ve edited the movie on my phone which was a little hard to do and also blogging from my phone I’ve lost the formatting and links to my book and website below. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do that soon? So please enjoy my little move from I Resort, Nha Trang, Vietnam.

I felt hydrated and clean after a 30 minute soak in the mud followed by a 30 minute soak in the hot mineral herbal bath.

The herbs were fragrant and sweet and I loved the little handmade cotton balls that were stuffed full.

The view over the river from the upper waterfalls was stunning.

It was a wonderful way to spend  four  hours with the beautiful view of the lotus pond waiting for me when I left.

I love Vietnam!

My Fragrant Saigon – Vietnam Blog 1

Hello natural beauties for the next month I’ll be blogging from my phone while I travel Vietnam. Please forgive any typos or mistakes as it’s slightly more difficult doing this from a little device than it is from laptop. I’ll be searching for some fragrant moments for you and here is what I’ve found on my first few days …

The most aromatic moment so far has to be the Vietnamese coffee.  The robusta bean is mostly used which is more bitter than the arabica. Coffee culture is a serious thing here and being a diabetic vegan I have to drink it black without sugar – on ice! Iced coffee and iced tea are what most of the locals drink and I’m down with that because it’s soooooo hot! I’m surprised how much I love it!

Ca phe den da (iced black coffee)

So many beautiful teas – literally dried flowers at the Ben Thanh Market

A little star jasmine flower on the streets of Saigon

A Vietnamese orange – the rind smells like a mix of mandarin and orange and the  fruit has a mild mandarin flavour.

Incense at the Buddhist Jade Pagoda was absolutely divine

Fragrant Lilies at the jade pagoda

And finally a trip to Villa Royale Antiques and Tea Room for a fragrant jug of Iced Sillver Moon (peach) tea

I’ve loved my first few days in Vietnam in the beautiful city of Saigon.

Stay tuned for the next episode where I’ll be posting pics from the Mekong Delta and the beachy Nha Trang.

The Rose Family by Robert Frost

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple’s a rose,
And the pear is, and so’s
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only know
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose–
But were always a rose.

The Grave and The Rose by Victor Hugo

The Grave said to the Rose,
“What of the dews of dawn,
Love’s flower, what end is theirs?”
“And what of spirits flown,
The souls whereon doth close
The tomb’s mouth unawares?”
The Rose said to the Grave.

The Rose said, “In the shade
From the dawn’s tears is made
A perfume faint and strange,
Amber and honey sweet.”
“And all the spirits fleet
Do suffer a sky-change,
More strangely than the dew,
To God’s own angels new,”
The Grave said to the Rose.

A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve’s like the melodie
That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it ware ten thousand mile.

Nobody knows this little Rose by Emily Dickinson

Nobody knows this little Rose —
It might a pilgrim be
Did I not take it from the ways
And lift it up to thee.
Only a Bee will miss it —
Only a Butterfly,
Hastening from far journey —
On its breast to lie —
Only a Bird will wonder —
Only a Breeze will sigh —
Ah Little Rose — how easy
For such as thee to die!

Stanzas to the Rose by Mary Darby Robinson

SWEET PICTURE of Life’s chequer’d hour!
Ah, wherefore droop thy blushing head?
Tell me, oh tell me, hap’less flow’r,
Is it because thy charms are fled?
Come, gentle ROSE, and learn from me
A lesson of Philosophy.

Thy scented buds, LIFE’S joys disclose;
They strew our paths with magic sweets;
Where many a thorn like thine, fair ROSE,
Full oft the weary wand’rer meets;
And when he sees thy charms depart,
He feels thy thorn within his heart.

When Morn’s bright torch illum’d the sky,
Vainly thy flaunting buds display’d
Enamell’d leaves of crimson die,
Ill-fated blossoms doom’d to fade;
So ’tis with BEAUTY, hapless flow’r,
Its lustre blooms but for an hour.

Come blushing ROSE, and on my breast
Recline thy gentle head, and die;
Thy scatter’d leaves shall there be press’d,
Bath’d with a tear from PITY’S eye;
There shall thy balmy sweets impart
An essence grateful to my heart.

Thus SYMPATHY, with lenient pow’r,
Shall bid thy fading charms bestow
Soft odours for life’s happy hour,
Kind, healing balsam for its woe!
If such thy virtues, ROSE DIVINE!
OH ! MAY THY ENVIED FATE BE MINE

Strength – A New Botanical Perfume by banks botanicals

Hello natural beauties!. Strength! Sometimes we have it and can give it to someone who really needs it, and other times we are desperately searching for it. It’s time to introduce the next botanical perfume, strength, from my perfume range called REVELATION. The 10 all-natural organic botanical perfumes correspond with my book of the same name. Each perfume represents a “Revelation Formula” from one of the ten chapters on essential oils. Immortality is about an holistic approach to living your life in creativity.

From the Health chapter in my book, I have created strength the botanical perfume.

strength 9ml roll-on bottle

“Health is not a condition of matter, but of mind.”

Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Christian Science Church

In this chapter of my book I look at using all the essential oils available to you to instil a great healthy body and mind. Essential oils can stimulate a return to good health by giving you their stunning, aromatic energy. However it is important to remember that trying to “cure” a disease or disorder with an essential oil wont work, so tap into the healing energy of the universe and your body with essential oils and see what you can create.

Adding your intention to the potion or blend you create for your health and strength, will amplify the healing benefits of the oil and if that all seems too hard, get strength in a bottle from my online shop.

” Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude  to the whole cosmos – the trees, the clouds, everything.

Thich Nhat Hanh, monk, author, speaker

The strength formula combines happiness oils and some of the essential oils I have listed in the Health chapter of my book. All my perfumes are hand-made, organic, vegan, jojoba oil based.

strength opens with a bright orange smiley splash, underscored with the intoxicating floral fragrance of jasmine. Indian sandalwood and cardamom offer a deep creamy baseline that lingers through the spaces of your cells, bringing a sense of strength and softness. Of course the frangipani is still rockin, and will be for a while too as we’re in for a mild autumn!

Murraya peniculata

The star of late summer is always the murraya, sometimes known as orange jessamine.  There’s no stopping this tree from blooming the intoxicating scent of deep jasmine mixed with gardenia and a little spice thrown in for good measure.

I never want to live without it – just like this bee!

And look at all the petals on the ground! So delicious, its a treat to walk outside.

And of course there’s always geranium to be found.

If you’re in late winter/spring what scented delights have you found?

Thanks again dear ones and remember to appreciate the little things in life, like scented flowers, you will remember these moments fondly in the end.

Peace.
