He smelled the roses, tasted the roses, gifted the roses, accepted the roses,, lived with the roses, lived without the roses, saw the world through rose coloured glasses and was very a rosy friend. My Fragrant Saigon – Vietnam Blog 1

Hello natural beauties for the next month I’ll be blogging from my phone while I travel Vietnam. Please forgive any typos or mistakes as it’s slightly more difficult doing this from a little device than it is from laptop. I’ll be searching for some fragrant moments for you and here is what I’ve found on my first few days …

The most aromatic moment so far has to be the Vietnamese coffee. The robusta bean is mostly used which is more bitter than the arabica. Coffee culture is a serious thing here and being a diabetic vegan I have to drink it black without sugar – on ice! Iced coffee and iced tea are what most of the locals drink and I’m down with that because it’s soooooo hot! I’m surprised how much I love it!

So many beautiful teas – literally dried flowers at the Ben Thanh Market

A little star jasmine flower on the streets of Saigon

A Vietnamese orange – the rind smells like a mix of mandarin and orange and the fruit has a mild mandarin flavour.

Incense at the Buddhist Jade Pagoda was absolutely divine

Fragrant Lilies at the jade pagoda

And finally a trip to Villa Royale Antiques and Tea Room for a fragrant jug of Iced Sillver Moon (peach) tea

I’ve loved my first few days in Vietnam in the beautiful city of Saigon.

My Jasmine – Spring has Sprung!

Dear lovers of natural scent, the jasmine buds have finally flowered! Spring has sprung with these tiny little flowers packed with the most delightful scent. My last jasmine post was 2 weeks ago and I had predicted I would have had flowers by then, but was disappointed I didn’t. A day after the article, a lone flower popped out….

At first there was one

lone flower

And then there were three

three amigos

And now

my jasmine

The plant is still only a couple of years old so I’m looking forward to more flowers next year.

Spring has sprung. I’m now counting down to summer!

My Jasmine – A Countdown to the Southern Spring ~ Week 5

The jasmine chronicle continues into week 5, after I spotted buds on the vine at the front of my place. I was wrong – which is unusual because I’m usually right 100% of the time (hehehehe). I predicted little flowers this week but was thwarted as we were plunged back into the dead of winter, with cold temperatures and rain. Here is where my potential flowers are at:

So here we are at the end of another week and nature is in control. I’d like to go out on a limb and predict flowers next week – but my last prediction didn’t end so well. I’m going to say 1 week to 10 days, and I’ll have jasmine flowers. I will be so happy when that time comes.

My countdown continues as we take a close up look at the jasmine buds on the vine at the front of my place. Jasmine is sweet and sensual, and tells me summer is on the way! And yes, the buds are getting bigger still ……

One week on from the first pics and I can see the plumpness in each potential little flower. The reason I’m so delighted when I see these little buds, is that I really don’t love the winter and when I see the jasmine, I know it’s getting warmer, and closer to summer.
