“Gratitude and abundance go hand -in- hand.”

Suzanne R Banks      Revelation! Reveal Your Destiny with Essential Oils

Abundance, of course, does not only apply to money. It could mean you require more time or positivity in your life. Using essential oils will help change your focus away from lack and into a better feeling place.

“Essential oils are a fantastic medium for feeling better about things, and when you feel better it’s easier to be grateful; and when its easier to be grateful you will find more things to be grateful for and then you’ll feel even better about your situation, and see the abundant nature of the universe in every little thing.

Me – again

The harmony formula combines happiness oil and the essential oils I have listed in the abundance chapter of my book.

All my perfumes are hand-made, organic, vegan, jojoba oil based.

The scent is a gorgeous plush rosy wood in all its intricate simplicity. Deep, sweet red mandarin is the mouth-watering highlight as a touch of warm resin brings the base, finishing with a crisp light wood. A little sage leads the way to wisdom through the herbal strength of the ages past.

Attune to the abundance of the universe.

” The Egyptians referred to the nose and other parts f the brain as the “pathway to the soul” and in the detailed artwork some are seen to be inhaling the enchanting fragrance of the blue lotus of the Nile. It seems as though this fragrance was able to influence their mind and thoughts to reach an altered state of consciousness, to connect with the Gods. Essential oils work in the same way…”

Suzanne R Banks “Revelation! reveal your Destiny wth Essential Oils

In this chapter I discuss the important part meditation plays in our lives. Not only does it have positive physical, mental and emotional aspects, but it also helps us improve our intuition. Essential oils can amplify our meditation and help open our intuitive capacity, and a botanical perfume based on essential oils will be the perfect companion to your spiritual practice. Throw it in your handbag for those earthly moments when you need a little help – driving, screaming kids, freaking out – and things like that.

“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders”

What is Botanical Perfume?

Botanical perfume is a perfume made only from ingredients that have been distilled or extracted from plants. This can include essential oils, CO2 extractions, absolutes, extracts, infused waters, cold pressed oils and butters and probably a few others I’ll think of once I’ve published this!

Is it a Natural Perfume?

Yes – all natural!

pretty wild violet

pretty wild violet

So What is a Natural Perfume?

A natural perfume may contain any botanical ingredients, but may also contain nature identical scents that have been synthesized. This means that it may have some essential oils in it but may also contain other compounds eg civet. Civet is a prized scent of perfumers and “noses” since the dawn of fragrance creation, as it has an obvious musky animal scent to it. According to Frangrantica

“African civet lives in savannahs and forests of South and central Africa, while Indian civet lives in Nepal, Bangladesh and Vietnam. These animals produce odorous secretion with purpose of marking their territory. Diluted, after some time, the odor of civet secretion, which normally is strong and repulsive, becomes pleasant with animalistic-musk nuance. For the purpose of collecting this secretion, animals are kept in cages. Luckily, this scent is nowadays mainly synthetic.”

So civetone is a compound created for perfumers who want the scent, but cannot get it naturally – thank goodness!. In this day I feel we should not be enslaving and torturing animals for our own pleasure. Cruelty free is the only way to go.

So for some people, as it is almost nature identical, the perfume is still referred to as “natural’. This is the same for many compounds.

Is it a Natural Perfume?

Is “natural perfume” a natural perfume? It really depends on what your opinion is. I say it is not, others say it is. The world will not end if we disagree.

Chemicals

At this time on earth all our matter is made of chemical structures. We couldn’t exist without these buildings blocks of nature. We are made of chemical structures and so is our environment.

To me, a botanical perfumer (first range almost ready to be released), and an Aromatherapist, I have only ever worked with botanical extracts. There is an unspoken beauty, softness and warmth to essential oils and their friends that is simply not there with synthesized compounds. It doesn’t matter if every single bond within the synthetic compound is exactly the same as in the essential oil – to me there is something missing.

As I state in my book “Revelation! reveal Your Destiny with Essential Oils”:

Perfumes                     vs              Essential Oils

Syntheti:                                       Natural:

created in a lab                           created by nature

                                                      (with a little help)

Thin/weak                                     Round/fortified

Contractive                                   Expansive

Temporary                                     Enduring

Subjective/personal                     Objective/universal

Ornamental                                   Therapeutic

One dimensional                           Multi dimensional

Suzanne R Banks

This is my opinion. Others disagree. However when a client asks if “perfume X” is natural and it has synthetic compounds in it, I say no.

There is room for everyone. Create what you like, and where what you like.

Conventional Perfumes

Conventional perfumes are mostly synthetic. They are cheap to make and in my opinion smell awful. Often brands are owned by big companies who put most of the purchase price of the perfume back into marketing. The actual scent is not very valuable. Profit is the driving factor. Most of the world still loves this. I do not. These perfumes radiate outwards in a brash unforgiving nature, so you may be preceded by your scent as you walk into a room. This is not subtle, nor does it have any therapeutic benefit to the wearer or the ones who are subjected to it.

Artisan Perfume

An artisan perfumer will often make small batches and buy small amounts of raw ingredients. This makes it much more expensive to produce the perfumes.  Whether your perfume is “natural” or “botanical”, please support creative talent. By helping each other and sharing money between ourselves and by-passing big business, hopefully we can create a more inclusive, supportive world.

Pure botanical perfumes are designed for the intimate us of the wearer – for the soul, the mind and the energy. Botanical perfumes tend to be softer, more personal, and reach within; to be combined with your intention and feelings for the day, to give a result that is exponentially supportive and beneficial to YOU. You are the most important part of your botanical perfume. Like the double torus energy field in quantum physics, you draw the scent into you, mix it with your self, and then radiate this unique essence to the world. It will be different every time you use your perfume.

The Gardenias Are Out! And a Few Perfume Recipes Too

Video

I’m so happy its getting warmer and the heady, intoxicating scent of gardenias is everywhere. So fragile, so pretty and oh what a scent! And the good news is you can buy gardenia absolute – it’s more expensive like the other floral extractions of rose, jasmine and neroli – but worth every scent (get it? cent/scent). What can you do with gardenia absolute?

Because this floral scent is so special and so unique, you don’t need to mix it up too much. You could treat it in the way you use jasmine oil, as it has an exotic white floral scent indicative of summer evenings somewhere delightful.

Here a a couple of recipes you try with this precious oil, and my general rules for making an anointing perfume:

Pure Pulse Point Perfume

In a little dish mix these oils and anoint your pulse points or chakras – 3 drops of essential oils and dilute with a few drops of carrier oil – always patch test first!

How do you hope your fragrances will make your customers feel?

loved, happy, authentic

Why are botanical ingredients more luxurious than synthetics?

Essential oils have a richness and complexity due to the presence of hundreds of components, which each add something significant to the overall scent. So each oil is like a fragrance in itself with, top, heart and base notes. This complexity is difficult to match with a synthetic.

What is your “go-to” scent in nature to make you smile?

How is your business (and your perfumes) different?

My perfumery focuses on the individual. I want my clients to enjoy the whole experience from initial interview to the finished fragrance with unique name presented in a gorgeous hand-blown black glass bottle. My fragrances, including the exclusive ready-to-wear range, are oil-based, distinctive and long lasting. I also make customized fragrances and room sprays for the corporate sector. I feel a strong connection between colour and fragrance and make art inspired scents for exhibitions

What is your favourite scent to gift to your friends?

I like to give my friends gift vouchers for customised scents, the ultimate in luxury.

What is an unusual way you scent your home?

I have developed a range of room sprays so sometimes use a different scent in each room. Splendour in the Bath for the bathroom, Where the Wildflowers Are for the entrance and hallway, Refresh for my teenager’s bedroom.

What inspires you and what inspired you to become a perfumer?

I am inspired by people and their stories. Each customised perfume I have created was inspired by a unique journey, scent memory and taste in fragrance. I read “The Emperor of Scent” by Chandler Burr, the wonderful true story about Luca Turin, world famous scientist and perfume critic. Reading that book rekindled my passion for perfumery and my need to create.

My Jasmine – A Countdown to the Southern Spring ~ Week 5

The jasmine chronicle continues into week 5, after I spotted buds on the vine at the front of my place. I was wrong – which is unusual because I’m usually right 100% of the time (hehehehe). I predicted little flowers this week but was thwarted as we were plunged back into the dead of winter, with cold temperatures and rain. Here is where my potential flowers are at:

A slightly blurry pic, but you can see some of the bigger buds are turning a much lighter pink:

A bit blurry but still cute

It’s definitely winter rain falling on those little buds:

It's definitely winter rain!

It’s definitely winter rain!

Come on you little beauties!!!!!!!

Come on little ones!

Come on little ones!

So here we are at the end of another week and nature is in control. I’d like to go out on a limb and predict flowers next week – but my last prediction didn’t end so well. I’m going to say 1 week to 10 days, and I’ll have jasmine flowers. I will be so happy when that time comes.

Spring! Spring! Spring! (That’s my chant).
