New Year – New Energy – Which Essential Oils?

?

?

So here we are, 2015! It’s definitely the present but sounds like the future. It’s going to be a great year of fun, working together, and loving life. So which essential oils can we use to embellish our clean, crisp new year energy?

Hmmmmmmmm. I’m going to split this into 3 sections, with 3 oils in each:

1. Northern Hemisphere

2. Southern Hemisphere

3. Equatorial

It's winter for you

It’s winter for you

1. Northern Hemisphere

Brrrr it’s winter for you, so the oils that I’m sending to you are those which will be comforting, warming and loving.

Cinnamon – best to use this in the atmosphere rather than on your skin because it can really burn. It’s an oil of sweetness and loving what you do, and a spice that is loved by so many people. Used in herbal formulas the spice can help to increase metabolism and even help breakdown glucose in the blood a little bit faster; so it’s interesting that it’s often used in baking. This is a wonderful oil to use in your space to invite a new depth of your place in this world – your dharma. What is your true purpose?

Rosemary – warm up your feet and entire body with an oil blend made with rosemary oil. It is also the oil of remembering and there’s no better time than in winter to remember the good times, while you’re tucked away from the cold. It is a stimulating and refreshing oil and inspires us to look at the beautiful flow of abundance in our lives. Be grateful for what you have NOW, and energetically create your new plans.

Cedarwood Virginian – dissolve the barriers from last year to start the new year with a clean slate. This comforting oil can be used in body blends so well and is also great for soothing coughs and colds. This is also a wonderful oil to help with the answers to your questions of purpose in life. For you this winter, starting 2015, we need you to be absolutely committed to your spiritual and human purpose. This is evolution.

2. Southern Hemisphere

Yay it’s summer for us! Beach, gin and tonics, beach, swimming, really hot, beach. It’s our turn to celebrate and be out in the sun (with sunscreen on). We can relax and enjoy life. No need to think about the future too much – just be present.

Geranium – happiness and cheeriness. Perfect for a body oil blend or in a space scenting blend this floral oil of happiness reminds us we can feel good about life and enjoy every minute. It emanates colour, fun and joy – so be happy!

Vetiver – the oil of tranquility and abundance this oil is great to use to help remove heat from the body and to cool us down in the humid summer evenings. This very strong oil should be used sparingly and 1 drop around the body is enough. A couple of drops on a wet cloth, placed in front of a fan or a window can scent the entire house with the cool, earthy tones to help slip into a vibration of peacefulness and trusting.

Basil – expansive and refreshing basil oil will help open our minds to the wonderful opportunities for 2015. Basil oil can help strengthen our affirmations and resolutions for 2015 and will give us confidence. Whiff straight from the bottle or add to a space scenting blend to connect to universal intelligence.

3. Equatorial

You’re in the middle and hold us together. Whether you’re north or south of this mid line, it’s a bit milder and the seasons are not necessarily as pronounced. Your new year is one of balance and happiness where you can look forward to a 2015 full of laughter and warmth. Your oils are those which can add both introspection and celebration to your new year.

Sandalwood Indian – a classic oil for spirituality this oil gives deep meaning to the times when you can take a moment to look within. It can help raise your energetic vibration from the base of your spine right up to your crown chakra and can help you move through any thing holding you back from 2014. Perfect just to whiff straight from the bottle.

Lavender – solidarity and strength, lavender can be the one oil that can bring your thoughts, feelings and actions together. Lavender can be used for just about any issues whether physical, mental or spiritual. Perfect for a body blend lavender will nourish your skin and your soul.

Bergamot – happiness and bringing a sense of calm, bergamot is a beautiful oil to help you see the possibilities for this year. Remove any anxiety you may have about the future and just breathe! Mix a couple of drops with some carrier oil and anoint your wrists and heart to lift anything that could be holding you back.

3 Essential Oils to Help you Stop Obsessing About Something

An over-thinking mind can create even more stress

An over-thinking mind can create even more stress

Have you ever had an argument, an altercation with someone, a problem at work, a nasty email or letter, a bitchy comment on social media? One that you can’t seem to shake?

Sometimes we find ourselves obsessing about these kinds of human issues, and we can’t seem to let go of them. We replay the situation over and over in our minds. This leads to invoking the emotional response all through the body, which then brings back the same angst as if the situation had just occurred.

So then our body hitches a ride with our mind, and they feed off each other leading to a continual circle of stress, elevating all our stress responses in the body; which keep the mind fueled to keep on re-hashing the same thing.

Basically it’s a stress response which is harmful to us as a whole when it keeps going, and going, and going.

Break the chains of stress pic via ww.laffeycomputer.com

Break the chains of stress pic via ww.laffeycomputer.com

Breaking the cycle of stress can be a little easier with essential oils and hopefully you’ll be able to stop yourself from even starting next time. Sniffing an essential oil will change your focus in a matter of seconds, which is enough space for you to take back your power over a detrimental negative state.

Try these oils by having a sniff straight from the bottle. be careful not to over expose yourself to the oils as they can create headaches. Alternatively scent your space with a traditional oil burner or diffuser which will be a more gentle way to come down.

Lavender gives you strength

Lavender gives you strength

1. Lavender

To me lavender is the oil of solidarity. It not only helps relieve stress but its ancient herbal magic can really help you relax, revive and regain strength.

A few drops in the bottom of the shower will help cleanse and fortify you with a little calm thrown in for good measure.

Lavender’s purple colour is the colour of the Third Eye and Crown chakras, opening you to the abundant intelligence of the universe.

Lemon - gorgeous simplicity

Lemon – gorgeous simplicity

2. Lemon

Lemon essential oil is simply wonderful. Lemon is light and sparkly and lovely and it’s refreshing too. It helps you reload the page of your mind and refresh the content.

This oil is perfect for a whiff straight from the bottle.

The yellow colour of lemons relates to the Solar Plexus chakra which is the energy centre of desiring good things for ourselves (including good feelings!).

The blue of german chamomile looks a bit like this - pic via s296.photobucket.com

The blue of German chamomile looks a bit like this

3. German Chamomile

When the petite German chamomile flower is distilled a chemical component is change into chamazulene which gives it a deep blue colour. This chamomile is an anti-inflammatory oil and is often found in a 3% dilution as it’s quite expensive.

This essential oil will help you chill out and it would be perfect as a drop on your wrists, heart or throat so its steady evaporation will keep you stay calm too. You will find a chance here in this space, to release tension and stressful thoughts and feelings. You will be able to be aware of the thoughts you no longer need.

The deep blue of German chamomile relates to the heart chakra, stimulating you to open your heart energy and infuse compassion into the situation you want to release.

yum!

yum!

So if you have one of those moments when you keep replaying that movie over and over again in your mind. Grab an essential oil and have a whiff to help change your focus and reclaim your power and energy from the situation.

If you don’t have an essential oil, sniff a piece of citrus fruit or cut of some of rind and squeeze it all around you to release the essential oils from the skin. Actually why not just eat it first and THEN sniff the skin.

If you can’t find a piece of citrus fruit, smell a sweet flower walking down the street or open some spice jars and sniff the good stuff – cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger …………..

Remember to treat yourself first, then everyone will benefit.

Chapter 5

Spirituality

Another look in between the covers of my book

Revelation! Reveal Your Destiny with Essential Oils

Revelation! Reveal Your Destiny with Essential Oils

Chapter 5

Spirituality

“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher than your own soul”

Swami Vivekananda

In this chapter in my book I look at the importance of meditation and intuition within the subject of essential oils and spirituality. Which ever way you see it, both meditation and intuition are practices in looking within to find the answers to the questions we seek.

Meditation creates positive ripples in your environment

Meditation creates positive ripples in your environment

Essential oils will definitely enhance your meditation experience and one of those oils is…..

Frankincencse

This ancient oil is THE oil for relaxation as it has an effect on the lungs by opening the bronchi and encouraging deeper slower breathing. Used in some religions and churches for thousands of years, this oil is distilled from the resin that is tapped straight from the tree. If you find it difficult to sit quietly and meditate, vapourise essential oil of frankincense and have another go. You will be calmed by its magic.

Use your intuition (borrowed from eventexperts.com.au)

Use your intuition (pic from eventexperts.com.au)

Developing and/or acknowledging your intuition can be fortified using essential oils – by the way in which you choose them to treat yourself. As a novice essential oil user its fun to play the game of “which essential oils should I use/buy?”. Allowing yourself to be guided by your feelings is a perfect way to open yourself to your own genius that lies within.

When I first started practising Aromatherapy I would choose the oils for my client, and while they were getting on the massage table, I’d quickly flick through a book to work out why I had chosen those particular oils, so I would have something to tell them. After a while I slipped more easily to an intuitive state, and combined with my intention, the oils would be the perfect combination (of course!).

Basil

Basil is a clearing and opening oil for the upper chakras, and while it’s stimulating to the mind it can also help you go beyond your thoughts to connect straight to universal intelligence. Even tearing up a basil leaf and crushing it between your fingers then inhaling, can do wonders for your soul.

There are so many more oils I attribute to bringing a more vital knowledge of spirit, and you probably have your own too! To find out what other oils I have on my spirituality list check my book out using these links:

10 Recipes with Basil Essential Oil – Ocimum basilicum

Beautiful aromatic basil

Beautiful aromatic basil

Basil is a herb from the Lamiacae family and the genus Ocimum, and has been flavouring our foods and healing us for centuries. It is a scent you won’t forget – green, herbabceous sweet and pungent. As an essential oil basil (sometimes referred to as sweet basil) is stimulating to the mind opening the upper chakras and giving the brain a cleansing, refreshing scent.

In aromatherapy basil oil is used –

* as a cephalic which means it stimulates the head in general so if used in small amounts it could help a headache. Some basil oils can be high in linalool oil which is present in large amounts in lavender.

* to ease stress and tension and calm mild anxiety (you may notice lots of essential oils are attributed to this use which shows that they can be easily used to help you relax – even if it’s just for a couple of minutes)

* as an anti-inflammatory agent for joint pain

Sneakily borrowed from thepoofairy.com (hehehehe)

There are many types of culinary basil but so far the winner in terms of essential oil production is this basil – sweet basil. When using this oil it can be tricky to get the proportions right because it’s so strong. Sometimes a drop is all you’ll need.

Let’s check out some recipes –

The High Priestess – A Tarot Card reading with Essential Oils

The High Priestess - II from the Rider-Waite Deck

The High Priestess – II from the Rider-Waite Deck

Listen to your inner voice.

Trust your intuition.

Allow the thin veil of illusion (maya) to fall away between your conscious and subconscious mind.

The High Priestess is the bold feminine, intuitive energy of the major arcana in the tarot. She is a the one who is connected to her emotions and the power of the moon and the invisible cycles. She is calm, contained, and her deep wisdom shines through. She is supported by the twin pillars of Boaz and Jachin, from Solomons Temple (a very long and interesting story there). The pomegranates also appeared on the twin pillars and are adorning the curtain behind the priestess. They represent possibility, sexuality and according to Biddy Tarot, duty.

The High Priestess is about the dark feminine knowledge, the witch, the power of psychic forces and the wisdom of the ages. She is the gateway to the underworld. She is the all-knowing feminine power.

When The High Priestess shows up in a reading she may be asking you to recall ancient wisdom to help you on your present journey. You may need to take a break from the madness of everyday life, be calm and meditate.

You are wise, but at this time you may need to pay attention to your inner world more than your external world. It’s time to develop your intuition and rely on yourself.

Are you looking for a deeper meaning in your life? Maybe you have a new interest in philosophy and metaphysics? The High Priestess will help you with her knowledge of the collective unconscious.

Anointing with Essential Oils – What’s it all About?

Anointing with sacred oils in the time of the Pharoahs pic via www.jewishencyclopedia.com

Anointing with sacred oils in the time of the Pharoahs pic via http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com

**********************************************************************************************************************************************

From the freedictionary.com –

a·noint  (-noint)

1. To apply oil, ointment, or a similar substance to.
2. To put oil on during a religious ceremony as a sign of sanctification or consecration.
3. To choose by or as if by divine intervention.
**********************************************************************************************************************************************
Anointing is absolutely connected to religions of all kind but lets step up and reclaim the word on behalf of consciousness and spirituality.

If you are anointed in a religious ceremony it usually signifies that you have been playing the game correctly, and symbolizes your worthiness to be alive. It can also help you remember to walk with the divine in your life on a daily basis and allow the almighty gods to be with you. It shows others you are doing the right thing and can also be a source energetic protection. This practice occurs in many religions across many cultures and centuries.

Man with a tilaka - a mark of the divine pic via www.flickriver.com

Man with a tilaka – a mark of the divine pic via http://www.flickriver.com

Going to a temple in India, one may leave with a thumbprint of red paste on the forehead called a tilaka. It could be red sandal paste or red tumeric but there are so many variations according to the specific sect, caste and temple. The style and shapes of the mark are different too, and of course this does have a mild scent.

The Egyptians were into scent as a connection to the gods in a BIG way. There are depictions of perfumes, incense and scent rituals in the art they left us. The pic at the top of this article shows this, and according to wikipedia:

“In several temple reliefs in Ancient Egypt the Pharaoh is depicted being anointed by Horus (sun god and “father” of Pharaoh) and Thoth (god of wisdom), the oil of which is symbolically depicted as a stream of ankhs (symbols of life).”

Jesus , the Anointed One (so the story goes) pic via bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com

Jesus , the Anointed One (so the story goes) pic via bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com

The Bible and the Hebrew Bible are full of stories about anointing, the anointed or chosen ones, and references to this practice as being an important part of religion. The Hebrew Bible apparently describes the recipe for the anointing oil, while in the New Testament Jesus was described as the ‘anointed one’.

Back to present time.

Dr Hfuhrurur and Delores in The Man with Two Brains pic via youtube.com

Dr Hfuhruhurr and Delores in The Man with Two Brains pic via youtube.com

I recently referred to Steve martin in “The Man with Two Brains” when talking about myrrh. Clearly this movie has stuck in my mind and I just can’t seem to shake it. In this movie Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr woes his love Delores with this poem (by a fictional one-armed English poet named John Lillison):

‘ O pointy birds, o pointy pointy, anoint my head, anointy-nointy.’

Yep so there you go. Every time I say or think “anoint”, I’m not thinking about Jesus, I’m thinking about Dr Hfuhruhurr. Deep.

Let’s anoint! Historically fats and oils, perfumes, scented waters and coloured pastes have been used for this practice but I use essential oils.

**** Officially I can’t recommend you use essential oils straight from the bottle on your skin as it could cause a reaction in sensitive people. Why not follow your intuition with this but I’ll recommend you use a little carrier oil to dilute the essential oils.

Anoint yourself with pure essential oils

Anoint yourself with essential oils

Anoint Where?

Chakras

Pulse points – wrists, throat, heart

Anoint with What?

One or two essential oils diluted with some carrier oil

Why Anoint?

When you feel you need support from the universe

To inspire gratitude

To open energetic flow in your body

To open channels of creativity

To remind yourself you are surrounded by beauty through scent

Before or after meditation as a symbol of your connection to your spirit

To give you courage for a hard task or day ahead

When you need to feel more compassion for others

The practice of anointing is easy and a quick way to get in tune with the entangled web of us and the universe!

Happy anointing and remember to use your intention when you are creating your formulas. See my article about intention.
